The ASICS Gel-Venture series comprises tough trail running shoes with boot-like elements made to support a range of off-road activities. In 2017, the brand released the Gel-Venture 6; a shoe so well-constructed and proficient that it became the most popular silhouette in the entire collection.

The upper of the ASICS Gel-Venture 6 is made from hard-wearing mesh fabrics, with stitched-down synthetic overlays lending particular protection across key areas. As well as being resistant to the elements, the outer incorporates enough flexibility to provide a comfortable fit, while a pull tab emerges from the heel for convenient on and off. Lastly, traditional lacing combines with a reinforced eyestay and textile lace loops to hold the foot firmly in place during intense movement.

The foundation of the Gel-Venture 6 is a powerful and supportive sole unit. Its EVA foam midsole softens each step, and spongy Gel cushioning protects the heel from the impacts of trail-related debris and uneven ground. The shoe’s outsole is made from ASICS’ high-abrasion rubber for maximum durability and stability. Deeply set lugs form its sturdy tread pattern, offering excellent control over all sorts of wet and dry surfaces, whether going up or downhill. In addition, the sockliner is removable, so the wearer is free to apply personalised orthotics to further enhance comfort and protection.

Aesthetically, the ASICS Gel-Venture 6 has a functional yet sporty look and possesses the stylistic and technological versatility to be used for everything from an adventurous hike to a relaxing day in the city. Intriguing geometric shapes have been etched into the midsole along with capitalised Gel text to contrast the more curvilinear features of the upper, while bold branding effects adorn the tongue and heel. ASICS stripes then streak across each flank for a dynamic touch.

Since 2017, ASICS has continued to launch new Gel-Venture 6 colourways, even in the presence of its successors, notably reinventing its design in 2019 to produce the most up-to-date version. This proves the tremendous staying power of the silhouette, which is now available in several variants, including a Gore-Tex edition that is fully waterproof. Meanwhile, 2024’s Shield edition takes protection to even greater levels with a wrap-around TPU mudguard and Ripstop mesh upper.

It has also been involved in distinctive collaborations. In 2018, two sophisticated designs were made by luxury fashion brand Harmony, and Japanese retailer atmos produced its own colourful duo in 2020. American streetwear label Hidden NY crafted an elegant sneaker with metallic turquoise accents in 2024, before environmentally conscious brand Story mfg. revealed two eye-catching colourways with gingham and plaid-patterned outers, showcasing the silhouette’s enduring appeal.
