ACG Torre
Since its establishment in 1989, Nike ACG has been responsible for a number of high-quality shoes crafted for all types of terrain. Amongst this functional collection of footwear is a 1995 hiking boot known as the ACG Torre, which was brought back in all its retro glory in 2023.
While the OG Nike ACG Torre was made using waxed split leather and nylon mesh to give it great durability for the time, its modern counterpart features a similar nylon base with layers of suede panelling over the top for an even more hard-wearing design. A waterproof coating has been applied across the upper to make it usable in all types of weather, while its generously padded collar and tongue deliver superior comfort. Its tough, rope-style laces are secured through a combination of punched eyelets and sturdy TPU hooks, with an extra loop in the suede part of the tongue keeping lockdown as secure as it can possibly be. Lastly, the heel includes a substantial pull loop for convenient access.
Beneath the ACG Torre’s weatherproof upper is a strong, stable sole unit designed to offer comfort and support across a range of outdoor terrain. Its large midsole makes use of an updated formulation of EVA foam to provide softer, more lightweight cushioning. Meanwhile, grip comes from the chunky, angular lugs on the shoe’s powerful outsole, which incorporates recycled Grind rubber for added sustainability.
Alongside its practical, wilderness-ready construction, the Nike ACG Torre features a compelling retro aesthetic that honours the rich heritage of the All Conditions Gear sub-label. Nike branding appears on the tongue, the triangular ACG symbol punctuates the lateral heel and embroidered Swoosh logos adorn the quarter panel – a stylish departure from the leather used on the 1995 original. Lastly, the textile heel stripe displays a distinctive pattern that brings a dynamic edge to the ACG Torre. Since its 2023 rerelease, Nike has produced a number of compelling colourways, beginning with the ‘Pecan’ and the ‘Burnt Sienna’, both of which exhibit earthy tones that reflect the silhouette’s hiker-friendly design together with eye-catching accents in more vivid hues.
The Nike ACG Torre provides outstanding comfort and support for those hoping to partake in challenging hiking adventures, while its classy throwback look perfectly encapsulates the gorpcore fashion trend for a stylish outdoor experience.
